Vivarium

Our Animal Facility is a double dependency area between a CONICET institute (CIBICI) and the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the National University of Cordoba. The Animal Facility is an area dedicated to the production and maintenance of experimental animals, in particular mice (Mus musculus).

Provides a controlled environment for the animals, with periodic control of diet, water, temperature and air conditions.

Our Animal Facility enables the development of multiple proyects of 22 researchers which are funded by FONCyT, MINCyT, CONICET, SECyT and NIH. There are approximately 150 users of this facility.

The Animal Facility staff gives service to laboratories for obtaining commercial strains of animals, shipping animals for collaboration with other institutes, and maintenance and breeding of different mice strains.

We work following the 3R principles: reduction, refinement, and replacement of animal experiments.

The animal facility can house approximately 4000 mice. We have C57BL/6, BALB/c, C3H/J strains besides the following genetically modified ones:

Knock out: ApoE, Caspase-1, CD39, CD73, Dectin-1, IFNAR, IFN-γ, IL-17A/F, IL-17RA, IL-4, LSP1, NLRP3, NKT, P75NTR, PD-L1, B7-DC (PD-L2), PER2, TLR2, TLR3, TLR4, muMT

Transgenics: OT-I, OT-II, FoxP3-GFP, IL-17A GFP, CD11c DTR/GFP, Langerin-DTR

Congenics: CD45.1, AhRd

Others: NOD-SCID

In addition, we provide the housing of chickens (as sustenance for feeding triatomines).

This is a conventional animal facility sectorized into animal housing rooms and washing zone.

Within the animal housing rooms there is space for an infected animals room, a transgenic room and breeding area.

It has a filtered air system and a double door electric autoclave, which allows the sterilization of all the material used by the animals.

We have individually ventilated cages with sterile filtered air and laminar flow cabinets for handling cages in sterile conditions.
